The Infinity Mirror Analogy
The following questions are answered in this article:
-
What is an infinity mirror?
-
Does the infinity mirror analogy help explain the nature of reality?
-
Is Brahman like an infinity mirror?
-
How does the infinity mirror relate to Vedanta?

The infinity mirror (when two mirrors are placed on opposite ends) creates the illusion of infinity. This example *almost* correctly captures the illusion of time, space and causation within Brahman. Consider if only one mirror is being shown. The mirror’s reflection creates the illusion of time and space which allows Brahman to become entangled inside its own reflection. But is there really such thing as spatiality? As you can see, there is only one mirror. So how can there be spatiality? Spatiality is only an illusion that appears inside the mirror's reflection.

The mirror is Brahman. The screen holding the reflection is pure sattva (i.e. Turiya). And inside the screen (within the reflection) is the rajastic/tamastic mind. This is home to the deluded jiva who perceives the world of separation (i.e. perceives objects outside of itself within the realm of space and time).

However, when you abide as Turiya (the screen holding the pure reflection), you witness your entire body-mind appearance in your own reflection, while not being immersed inside of it. You witness the separation but are non-separate from it since you make up the screen which holds the dual appearance. From the mirror or Brahman’s point of view, nothing is happening since the mirror is unaware of anything it holds. It is unaware of any reflection, yet it is the very foundation that gives existence to everything else. And now here we are, pondering about the nature of reality and how to remove the illusion...
